FASA's First Kamayan Night

November 04, 2017

"Kamayan" derives from the Tagalog word "kamay", which translates to "hand." Kamayan is a special kind of dinner where a feast of food is served on banana leaves and this meal is only eaten with your hands.
––––––––––
FASA would love to bring this aspect of our culture to our members, so come join us on November 4th (Saturday) in AsACC to enjoy this special dinner!
––––––––––
This dinner HEAVILY relies on our DUES PAYING members to bring in some type of food, so if you are not bringing food, we are asking you to pay FASA (cash or venmo [@uconnfasa]) $5 to participate. Please make sure to fill out the appropriate form(s) indicating that you're attending and what food you'll be bringing/you'll be paying to participate. The links for each can be found below!

FASA Goes to FIND Dialogue: UNC Greensboro

November 11, 2017

FIND, Inc. presents Pananaw: Unifying Our Differences on Saturday November 11th, 2017 in Greensboro, NC at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Pananaw (pah-nah-nao) ⦁ The English translation of Pananaw is point of view. This year’s theme will challenge delegates to come to an awareness and react on the issues that have transpired between the intergenerational gap within the Filipino American community. During this dialogue, delegates will aim to recognize the differences between the traditional and millennial ideologies in hopes to gain a better understanding towards their personal perspectives.
–––––––
The Pananaw logo displays the sampaguita and its leaves prominently as a representation of the National flower. The hands display the camaraderie between different generational standpoints coming together to lift up and unify our differences for the betterment of the Filipino-American community. The official logo incorporates a feeling of openness, solitude, and a peaceful serenity. In observing how natural elements reflect togetherness and life in harmony--and how appropriately such elements are mirrored in FIlipino culture.
